Iris Nella May Douglass lost her battle with cancer on Oct. 15, 2011 in her home in Homer, Alaska. She was 80 years old.

Born March 29, 1931 in Yakima, Washington, she went on to earn her education at Buss College in Salem Oregon. Iris made the move to Homer in 1982.

Iris was a member of the Assembly of God for approximately 64 years. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was a Missionette, a member of the Royal Rangers as well as being a part of Ladies Bible Studies. Iris enjoyed gardening, smoking salmon and reading.

Iris was a person who loved people and was a true friend when people were in need. Often she could be found laughing or crying and praying with those who needed help and encouragement. Iris was secure in her faith and loved the unlovely. Her smile was contagious and she would never let you leave without a hug.

Iris was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Bowman; father, Ed Bro and younger sisters Ilecia Dodson and Audry Zook of Oregon. She is survived by her husband, Roy E. Douglass of Homer; step-son Roy E. Douglass Jr. and daughter-in-law Joanne Douglass of Los Angeles; daughter, Iris Cydentte May and son-in-law, Robert May of Newport, Ore., and son, Guy R. E. Douglass and daughter-in-law Delia Douglass of Anchor Point. Iris is also survived by her granddaughter, Jaylene Lynch of Longview, Wash.,; grandsons, Timothy K. Olson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Noah B. Douglass; step-granddaughters, Khadija Bond of Waldport, Ore, Dinah Rae of Boise, Idaho; step-grandson, Joshua Rae; as well as great-grandchildren, Lycy, Rhya, Claire, Cooper Douglass, Ethan, Katelyn and Orion.
