Local educator named educator of the year

Lolita Brache, a Kachemak Bay Campus' adult basic education, general education development and English as a second language instructor has been named the "2011 Educator of the Year" by the Alaska Adult Education Association.

Barche has taught at KBC for 15 years, traveling to Seldovia, Nanwalek, Port Graham, Nikolaevsk and Voznesenka. For 11 years, she coordinated the campus Family Literacy Evenstart program, working with parents and children. In 2007, she was named AAEA's Administrator of the Year for her work with that program.

In addition to her work with KBC, Brache is on the board of directors for Kachemak Bay Kids, a local preschool, and the board of Best Beginnings, a statewide and local preschool advocacy group.
