Shauna Ryan Haley and William James Matthews were married Aug. 17, 2002, in Coos Bay, Ore.
Shauna is the daughter of Katie Kennedy of Ninilchik. She was born in Ketchikan and raised in Homer. She is a 1993 graduate of Dimond High School, Anchorage, and earned a degree in human services from Southwestern Community College in Coos Bay. Shauna is employed as a home visitor for first-time parents through the Coos County Healthy Start program.
William is the son of Susie Matthews of Coos Bay and Dan Matthews of Charleston, Ore. He is a 1995 graduate of Marshfield High School in Coos Bay. William is currently employed as a nurse technician at Bay Area Hospital, Coos Bay. The couple enjoys family activities such as fishing, camping, biking and gardening.
The ceremony was at the Cape Arago Lookout above the Pacific Ocean in Coos Bay. The couple wrote their own vows. The attendants recited a section of vows from a Native American wedding ceremony. Kathy Haley, the bride's sister, was maid of honor, and Mark Hacker was the best man. Bridesmaids were Apple Ellsworth, Kimberly Wilson and two of the groom's sisters, Christiana Plews and Woodland Hood. Groomsmen were Gabe Sturgis, Eric Plews, Dustin Hood and the groom's brother, Carmen Matthews. The groom's little sister, Rachel Matthews, was the flower girl. The ring-bearers were the bride's sons, Michael and Matthew. The couple included Michael and Matthew in a joining-of-family ceremony by exchanging rings with them.
The reception was held at the Old City Hall Ballroom in downtown Coos Bay. The bride's mother and partner prepared a delicious feast of Alaska seafood. Friends and family danced into the evening hours.
The couple honeymooned on a seven-day cruise that included stops in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico. They spent a day after the cruise in New Orleans before returning to their home in North Bend, Ore.
Sierra Autumn Adams and Ryan Bruce Turkington
Sierra Autumn Adams and Ryan Bruce Turkington were married Aug. 17, 2002, at Land's End Resort.
Ryan is the son of Bruce and Debbie Turkington of Homer and is a 1999 graduate of Homer High School.
Sierra and Ryan both work at Spenard Builders Supply, an association which helped them in building their house last summer. They plan to nest down in Homer and, at "a well-planned time, have kids in the future."
Robert and Norma Jo Carey
Robert and Norma Jo Carey celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 22. Robert Carey and Norma Jo Fraze married Oct. 25, 1942, at her home in Pendleton, Ind. Her sister and father were the attendants. They have six children -- four girls, Jama, Kirby, Robin and Liza, and two boys, Lance and Bob;one granddaughter, 10 grandsons, two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
