Grant broadens students' horizons

I am writing this letter to thank the Homer Foundation for the Homer Incentive Donor-Advised Fund Grant that was given to Homer Flex High School. Thanks to this generous amount of money, students were given the opportunity to travel to Seward and visit the Alaska SeaLife Center and AVTEC, and we were able to see the breath-taking view of Exit Glacier.

In my personal opinion, I feel the best part of the trip was exploring AVTEC. A lot of us students were completely unaware of all the opportunities AVTEC can offer. The school offers certifications in things such as welding, industrial electricity, diesel/heavy equipment, culinary arts, maritime training, facility maintenance, construction and business and office technology.

Without the assistance of the Homer Foundation's donation, we would not have been able to participate in this exciting educational experience.

With much gratitude,

Victoria Maines
