Shelter progress appreciated
I just wanted to take a moment to thank the mayor, city manager and the Homer City Council members for their decision to review specific locations for the new Animal Shelter at the Jan. 20, 2003, meeting. Gratefully, after 26 years of a "temporary" shelter, things are finally moving ahead.

If you're wondering what the rush is after 26 years, leave your warm home one snowy, cold night in January, go down to the shelter and watch one of the recently abandoned dogs shivering while it tries to keep warm in a small outdoor kennel with a concrete floor.

Please, the next time you see the mayor, city manager or a council member, let them know you support their efforts.
