Land's End names Oliver director of hospitality for 3 peninsula properties

Land's End Resort has announced that Darrel Oliver has accepted the position of director of hospitality for its three properties: Land's End Resort in Homer, the Van Gilder in Seward, and Kenai Landing in Kenai.

In his new position, Oliver will be responsible for business development, banquets and special events as they pertain to food and beverage operations, according to a press release.

"An increasing amount of our food and beverage business is coming from the special event market, including conferences, weddings, cooking classes and private meetings and dinners," said Mike Dye, CEO of Land's End Acquisition Corp. "We just hosted the annual Alaska Board of Realtors Conference, with over 400 attendees. In creating this position we recognize the growing importance of this market for our business. Darrel's knowledge of the industry and his exemplary customer service make him the perfect director of hospitality."

Oliver has worked for Land's End for 17 years as the food and beverage director of Land's End's Chart Room Restaurant in Homer.

GCI update featured at next chamber lunch

GCI will give an update on its telecommunication developments and future happenings throughout Alaska at a Homer Chamber of Commerce luncheon scheduled for Oct. 12.

The luncheon will be from noon-1 p.m. at AJ's Old Town Steakhouse and Tavern. It is open to the public. Lunch is $12 for members and $14 for nonmembers. RSVP for the optional lunch by calling the chamber at 235-7740 or emailing membership@homeralaska.org.

Chamber car raffle Nov. 3; tickets still available

The Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center reminds everyone that it will hold the drawing for the 2011 Car and ATV Raffle on Nov. 3 at the Best Western Bidarka Inn. Tickets are still available.

Car raffle ticket holders have a chance to win a $25,000 credit at Stanley Ford in Soldotna or $15,000 cash and every 25th ticket wins a prize. Also being raffled is a brand new Honda Rancher four-wheel drive ATV, valued at $5,700.

Tickets cost $100 for the car raffle, $30 for the ATV, or $125 for both. Up to four ATV tickets can be purchased for $25 each when one buys a car raffle ticket. Only 500 tickets will be sold for the car raffle.

AMHS releases summer 2012 ferry schedule

The Alaska Marine Highway System has announced the release of its 2012 summer schedule.

"We are thrilled to get our new summer schedule out on time so passengers can start booking either online or by phone immediately," said Deputy Commissioner Mike Neussl. "We know how important it is for residents and visitors alike."
