Homer resident James John Dahl, 77, died Sept. 30, 2002, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.

A memorial service was held Oct. 2, 2002, at South Peninsula Hospital in the Long Term Care Unit.

Mr. Dahl was born June 14, 1925, in Iron River, Mich. He received his degree from Central Michigan University.

He was a medical corpsman in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Benevolence in World War II from 1942 to 1944.

He moved to Homer in September 1985.

Mr. Dahl was a senior lab technician in the research lab of Dow Chemical Co in Midland, Mich., for 27 years, during which time he had several patents. He retired in 1979.

He was a Catholic.

James enjoyed family, friends, hunting, fishing and sports.

His family stated, "He was kind, strong and caring. He had a great sense of humor and a smile for all. He was loved by many and will be missed by those who knew him."

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Baringer of Homer; three sons, Frank Dahl of Cadillac, Mich., Kevin Dahl of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, Mark Dahl of San Antonio, Texas; his grandchildren and great-granddaughter; brother, Bob Dahl of Houston, Texas; sister, Pat Shepner of Pebble Beach, Calif.; sister-in-law, Franci Dahl of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Long Term Care Unit of South Peninsula Hospital, 4300 Bartlett, Homer, AK 99603.
