Student contest

Homer Electric Association is sponsoring its second annual Energy Efficiency and Conservation Student Contest for grades three through eight. Students are invited to enhance their skills in science, writing and technology by entering the contest held in conjunction with HEA's 2011 Energy and Conservation fairs in November. Students are asked to answer a grade-specific question on how they reduce, reuse or recycle and make efficient use of electric energy in the form of a poem, essay, news article and television commercial. The contest is open to all students in the HEA service areas. Two separate contests will be held, one for the south service area and one for the north service area. Finalists will be expected to participate in the fairs hosted in Kenai and Homer in November. Deadline for entries is Oct. 24. For information, contact Tanya Lautaret, (907) 283-2305. Visit www.homerelectric.com for contest rules, guidelines, prizes and an entry form.
