Seldovia resident Fred W. Newmeyer, 84, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at his home in Seldovia.

Graveside services with military honors are 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery, Anchorage. Those wishing to attend are asked to be at the front gate of Fort Richardson no later than 8:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28.

A celebration of his life and potluck is 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2021, at Lakeside Terrace Community Room in Seldovia.

Fred was born Feb. 29, 1928, in San Francisco, Calif. He attended school through the 10th grade. He served in the U.S. Army from April 16, 1946, until his honorable discharge on Sept. 19, 1947. He moved to Alaska in 1962 and resided in Anchorage in 1964 and then in Seldovia.

Fred was a baker and liked to bake doughnuts.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Fred is survived by his wife, Mildred (Kagak) Newmeyer of Seldovia; daughters, Sandra Andrews of California and Virginia Monroe of Fairbanks; son, Sammy Turkelson of Hawaii; and 18 grandchildren.
