Mayor primarily ceremonial position

Im opposed to Mary Beth Wythes election as Homers mayor. Shes too valuable as a council member. Ms. Wythe is a strong and articulate advocate for the many local issues that she espouses. She appears to be a moderate and fiscally responsible. She has a deep breath of experience in Homers public affairs and a solid understanding of its institutions.

Would that make her a good mayor? Sure. It also makes her a good council member, a position that provides more opportunity for influencing policy than wearing the mayors hat, primarily a ceremonial position.
