City of Homer election training starts at 10 a.m. at Homer City Hall.

Planning Commission holds a work session at 9 a.m. at Homer City Hall.

A celebration of 23 years of service for Don and MaryEtta Haunschild is 7-9 p.m. at the Alaska Bible Institute on Mission Road. Please bring a dessert to share.

McNeil Canyon Elementary School holds a garage and bake sale 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the school. Proceeds benefit the fifth- and sixth-grade class trip to the Kachemak Bay Learning Center.

Anne Nevaldine is the guest presenter for the annual Harvest Dinner of the Homer Garden Club at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Nevaldine shows slides on "Alaska Yard and Garden Art and Whimsy." The dinner is a potluck affair.

Monday, Sept. 30

Alaska Bible Institute holds orientation for fall classes starting at 8:15 a.m. at the campus on Mission Road off East Hill Road. Classes start Tuesday and meet daily 8:30 a.m.-noon through the end of March.

ABI is a nondenominational school offering courses in Bible, Christian Education and Music. Call 235-8648.

City and borough elections run 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
