Kenai Peninsula Borough School District


Sept. 30: Site council and parent group (PTA, PTSA, PTO, PAC, etc.) training, 9 a.m.-noon, Soldotna.

Oct. 17: School board meeting, 7 p.m., Soldotna.

Oct. 21: No school, inservice, end of first quarter.

Nov. 7: School board meeting, 7 p.m., Soldotna.

Note: The district is requesting applications from individuals interested in serving on the district's Budget Development Committee. The committee reviews current practices and procedures used to develop the expenditure budget and reviews how federal, state and local revenues are determined. Suggested changes or improvements to the FY13 budget will be received and discussed. The committee meets in the Borough Assembly Chambers in Soldotna from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 26. McNeil Canyon Elementary School

Today: Coast Walk Cleanup Day. Students need a sack lunch or order from the school kitchen, rubber boots, warm coat and rain gear. Students travel into Homer to clean beaches by the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies. They will return to McNeil before the end of the day and will celebrate their hard work with root beer floats.

Sept. 23: Family game night, 6:30-8 p.m.

Sept. 24: Homer High School homecoming parade with McNeil Canyon's parade dragon at half-time. Students carry/wear the dragon in the parade. The game begins at 3 p.m.

Sept. 28: Free developmental motor skills, speech, early learning concepts, vision and hearing screening; newborn through age 5; call 235-6044 for appointment.

Sept. 29: Picture day.

Oct. 1: Garage sale. Call Laura Sheldon at the school to reserve a table, 235-8181.

NOTE: It's that time of year when students get wet and muddy at recess. If you pack a change of clothes in your child's backpack, it would be a great help. The school also is accepting donations of pants that can be used by students if needed.

Ninilchik School

Oct. 6: Public Health nurse at school, 8:30-10 a.m.

Oct. 12: ASVAB, Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, for high school juniors and seniors, 8:30 a.m.

Paul Banks Elementary School

Sept. 28: Birth 2 Three, Homer Public Health and KPBSD offer free developmental screenings for newborn-5 at the Homer Public Health office, Bunnell Street, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Call 235-6044 to schedule an appointment, immunizations available by request.
