Legion appreciated
This summer I had the privilege to attend Alaska Girls State held in Anchorage at Alaska Pacific University. It was one awesome experience! I would like to thank the American Legion Post 16 for choosing me to attend this camp. Our local legion sponsored two other girls and me in this opportunity to attend a one-week camp with girls from around the state to learn about the U. S. government.

At Girls State you participate in a mock senate and a mock trial. You learn about and practice "real life" voting protocol; you have the chance to meet local political candidates as well as a chance to "run" for political office yourself. One of the major parts of Girls State was meeting other girls who were interested in the same things as I was. Overall, there were some pretty awesome girls that attended this camp and all were well accomplished.

I would like to encourage next year's junior girls to apply for this great opportunity. Girls State is there to teach young people about our country's government and to give girls a chance to meet other girls who have worked hard through school and life and who have shared interests. So once again, huge thanks to our local American Legion for sponsoring me and giving me this great learning opportunity.
