Gail Phillips and Erle Cooper go head to head for the mayor seat, with the squabble over City Manger Larry Farnen's job key to the political debate. Phillips said Farnen needs to go, while Cooper lined up behind the controversial manager.
Homer's hotel-motel bed tax is ruled illegal by the Alaska Supreme Court, forcing the city to return about $30,000 collected during the one-year period the tax was in effect.
The state Commissioner of Education denies a 37,000-square-foot variance on the Homer High School project.
