FORK Club delicious success

Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic and the R.E.C. Room (Youth Resource and Enrichment Co-op) would like to thank all those who made our cooking classes a delicious and rewarding success. This summer, the R.E.C. Room teamed with local chefs and teachers to offer the Fresh and ORganic Kitchen Club (FORK Club), a series of cooking classes for youth. The FORK Club aims to provide youth with the skills to be more self-sufficient and healthy through the joy of cooking. Thanks to local chefs and teachers Maura Brenin, George Barrientos, Kathy Kysar and Janice Nelson for helping youth roll up their sleeves to prepare pesto stuffed chicken, Asian barbecued salmon, halibut stew, potato soup, fresh organic salads and more.

The FORK Club was made possible with grant funding from the Alaska Initiative for Community Engagement and Association of Alaska School Boards as well as support from the Homer Community Food Pantry and Homer Farmers Market, and was so popular that the R.E.C. Room hopes to offer more cooking classes, so keep those knives and forks sharpened, and stay tuned.
