Longtime Alaskan and Kenai resident Alvin Glen Mintken, 79, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at his home at the Chuda House in Kenai.

A military graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Mr. Mintken was born Nov. 30, 1932, in Gurley, Neb. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He also served in the U.S. Army following his discharge from the Navy. He moved to Alaska in the 1950s and lived in numerous places around the state. He had lived in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Kenai, Petersburg and Seward.

We lay to rest our beloved father, grandpa, brother and uncle, Alvin Glen Mintken. He came to Alaska as a soldier in the 1950s. Over the years he worked as a diesel mechanic and heavy equipment operator all throughout the state, eventually retiring in the Kenai area.

Alvin will be remembered for always living life to its fullest and for always being there for his family, his family said.

Mr. Mintken was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Dorothy (Snyder) Mintken and brothers, Richard and Elwood Mintken.

He is survived by his daughters, Dottie Rogers of Hesperia, Calif., Kelly Amoit of New Castle, Colo., Joni Mintken of Portland, Ore., Lori Shindley of Palmer, Tisa Mintken Miller of Philomath, Ore., and Victoria Greer of Wasilla; son, Jamison Williams of Hoonah; sister, Sandra Moon of Philomath, Ore.; and brothers, Roy Dean and Charles Mintken.
