Sharon Sherry Johnson

Nov. 28, 1951 Sept. 5, 2012

Sherry Johnson, 50, was born on November 28, 1951, in Glendale, Calif., and passed away peacefully in her bed on Sept. 5, 2012, in Anchor Point, where she had resided for the last 15 years.

There will be two memorial services: One at 5 p.m. Sept. 20, 2012, at the Anchor Point VFW for a potluck dinner and remembrance of her life in Alaska. A second memorial will be held by her family in California where her ashes will be scattered in the ocean where her mothers ashes were strewn.

In 1970, Sherry moved from California to Hawaii where she lived for over 25 years before moving to Alaska. While there, she belonged to a canoe club and paddled in many canoe races with her team. She also was involved with the Kevin Costner movie, Water World, which was filmed there. She loved the Hawaiian culture and enjoyed showing her family around the beautiful island when they visited. She loved the outdoors and spent time surfing, as a lifeguard, and paddling.

Sherry had a huge heart, especially when it came to animals. She often did rescue work and adopted a beautiful wolf, named Kalai, when it was just 6 months old. She also had a spunky black lab, Bubba, who was Kalais buddy. You could often see the three of them frolicking on the beaches of Alaska.

She leaves behind her sisters Susan Carr of California, Sarah Spatz of California, and Joanna Gioia of Ohio, niece Christy Carr of California, brother Josh Johnson of Indiana, and her aunt and uncle, Jackie and Wally Hornberger of Arizona.

As an avid animal lover, Sherry would appreciate donations be made to the Homer Animal Friends, PO Box 2300, Homer, Alaska, 99603, (907) 235-3141. Please state that this is to be placed in memory of Sherry Johnson for the Homer Animal Shelter.

Arrangements made by Homer Funeral Home.
