Family practice physician joins hospital staff

South Peninsula Hospital welcomes Dr. Sarah Roberts, a new family practice physician certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Roberts has been practicing in Anchorage for four years as chief resident in the Alaska Family Medical Residency Program, part of the Providence Alaska Medical Center

Roberts received her medical degree from Michigan State University in 2008 and has advanced training in perinatal mood disorders from Postpartum Support International. She has a strong interest in and commitment to women's and children's health.

She is now accepting new patients, including expectant moms, at Homer Medical Center. Appointments can be made by calling 235-8586. She also will provide emergency room care as an Emergency Department on-call physician at South Peninsula Hospital.

Shopping derby drawing set for Sept. 25 luncheon

The Homer Shopping Derby, sponsored by the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, wrapped up Sept. 3. Stamped tickets must be turned in to the chamber no later than Saturday. The drawing of the winning shopper's name will be during the chamber's luncheon meeting at the Best Western Bidarka Inn on Sept. 25, with a $5,000 prize awarded to the shopper and a $500 prize awarded to the business that sold the winning ticket. CACS 'Dream Raffle' tickets available

The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies is holding a "Dream Raffle," with only 100 $100 tickets being sold for the grand prize of round-trip transportation for two from any major U.S. airport and a week stay at Costa Rican Ocean Villa, Casa Las Nubes. The drawing will be held Oct. 15. All proceeds benefit CACS. Tickets are available through any CACS board member, at the gift shop or online at www.akcoastalstudies.org.
