The Kenai Peninsula Borough will hold its annual hazardous waste collection event in Seldovia Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at the boat ramp near the small boat harbor.
The collection provides an opportunity for homeowners and small businesses to properly dispose of hazardous waste. There is no fee for homeowners and small waste volumes from businesses. Businesses must first call Phillip Environmental Inc., at (800)478-9008, to pre-register with types of materials and estimated volumes of wastes.
Businesses with more than 10 batteries or two 55-gallon drums will have to pay for management of any additonal waste. Those with questions should call the KPB Solid Waste Department at 262-9667.
The Seldovia Fire Department will be the beneficiary of a $25,000 grant from the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the KPB Assembly announced at a recent meeting. The grant is part of a spruce bark beetle fire mitigation grant given the borough by the federal government.
