Eleanor Ursin Vinberg Shuravloff

Eleanor Ursin Vinberg Shuravloff died peacefully Aug. 31, 2011.

Eleanor was born to Axel and Dora Ursin Sept. 4, 1934 in Seldovia. She loved Alaska. She married two Alaskan men: Emil Vinberg and John Shuravloff.

Eleanor loved her Alaska friends and family was and avid reader and gardener.

"She had a great sense of humor. I remember she would radio our father when he was fishing and would say, 'Send new money, old money gone,'" her son Emil said.

Marilyn Nelson of Port Lions said, "I am going to miss my aunt. She was fiercely protective of her five children and often fiercely demanding. She loved her home, she loved her family. Aunt Eleanor had a wild and witty sense of humor (yes Ursin humor is it's own brand)."

Eleanor is survived by her sister Laura Resoff of Kodiak; her children Emil Vinberg, Greg Vinberg, Tamara Elliott, Tisha (Paul) Hurn and John Shuravloff; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
