Healthy brain topic of forum

According to the Alzheimer's Association, there are more than 35 million people living with dementia worldwide. Alzheimer's disease is the only cause of death among the top 10 in America without a way to prevent, cure or even slow its progression. In recognition of September as Alzheimer's month, South Peninsula Hospital will present "Healthy Body, Healthy Brain," a community forum about the aging brain and ways to prevent cognitive decline, and offer an information table at Safeway.

The forum will be presented by Lisa Warszonak of the Alzheimer's Resource Agency of Alaska. It will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at the hospital's Training Center, 203 W. Pioneer Ave. It is free and open to everyone. Please use the entrance in the rear of the building.

In addition, Warszonak and Mary Fries, RN, community health educator for South Peninsula Hospital, will provide an information table on Alzheimer's at the Homer Safeway from noon-2 p.m. Sept. 15.

For more information contact the hospital's education department at 235-0258.
