Sun shines on 23rd annual Stariski Horseshoe Tournament

The windy weekend blew our Labor Day right on by us. This year was very quiet over Labor Day. We didn't get the visitors like we have had in the past. With all the wind, it's now cleanup time. There were a few trees down; thanks to those who took the time to help get them out of the way. The feel of fall is in the air. This fall feeling truly hits home when we see our snowbirds are starting to pack up and head home. Wishing them all safe travels. This is a great time to get out and enjoy the Alaska air. The fall colors are starting to show. Good luck on the water and have a safe weekend.

Stariski Horseshoe Tournament

The 23rd Annual Stariski Horseshoe Tournament was held Aug. 7. The torrential rains turned off for 24 hours and the participants basked in sunshine. Each player pitched his or her first shoe in memory of Ted Rozak. Dick Stapel's first shoe was a three-point ringer. Ted Rozak participated in our tournaments since 1986. Ted placed 14 times through the years — three first-place singles, five second-place singles, one third-place single and five first-place doubles. He was a good friend, a great competitor and always a gentleman. The final results of this year's tournament were:

1st place singles: Janosh;

2nd place singles: Gailen Johnson;

3rd place singles: Tom Eckenrod;

1st place doubles: Eugene Lavin and Chuck Johnson

2nd place doubles: Jason Stapel and Tom Eckenrod;

3rd place doubles: Andre Drake and Dick Stapel.

Thirty-three pitching dead ringers participated.
