Skipper Joe Ohlund is yanked from his 106-foot Loon, a converted World War II submarine chaser, just before the boat sank. Ohlund was trying to get the boat's pumps working when the vessel quickly became submerged and crewman Ron Siderits pulled him into a skiff.

Former Homer News reporter Stephen McHenry settled out of court with the state on a false arrest lawsuit, receiving $30,000. McHenry was arrested by Trooper Scott Waggoner when McHenry refused to cease photographing the scene of a shooting. The officer seized McHenry's camera and film and charged him with disorderly conduct.
