The Homer Marine Trades Association hosts a Round Haul today at Sloths Fiberglass on Kachemak Drive from 5 to 7 p.m. Also, the membership drive has begun and packets for renewal have started to arrive for businesses that joined last fall as founding members of the new 501(c)(6) marketing organization. There will be a Kachemak Bay Birders trip to the Anchor River on Saturday. Meet at 7:45 a.m. at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center to car pool or at 8:15 a.m. in the parking lot on the left just before entering the boat launch area at the Anchor River. Bring binoculars and a scope if you have one. This trip is cosponsored by the Kachemak Bay Birders and the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. The leader will be Michael Craig. Kenai Peninsula Family Caregiver Support Program will have a peer support meeting in Homer on Friday from 1-2 p.m. The meeting is at the Consumer Direct Office, 126 Pioneer Ave., Suite No. 5. If you are, think you are or know people who are caregivers, you are invited to this meeting. There is no charge and everyone is welcome. The Boys & Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsulas Homer Clubhouse is hosting a community open house from 5-7 p.m. Friday. The public is invited to stop by, meet the new clubhouse staff and enroll children in the 2012 after-school program. The Homer clubhouse is currently undergoing a makeover and will open for after-school programs on Monday. Families wishing to enroll children in the after-school program can call (907) 283-2682.

Daniel Consenstein, executive director of the USDA Alaska Farm Service Agency, is visiting farmers and growers in Homer on Wednesday. South Peninsula Haven House and Wells Fargo Bank will offer a free Financial Literacy Workshop for Children at Haven House from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 15. A bank representative will help youths learn how to manage their money and keep finances under control. The public is welcome to attend this workshop which will be held at Haven House, 3776 Lake St. For more information or to register, call 235-7712.
