Power has been restored to most of the 968 members of Homer Electric Association that lost electric service at 4:30 a.m. today. The outage included a portion of the Ocean Drive area, the entire Homer Spit and from Jakolof Bay to Halibut Cove on the south side of Kachemak Bay. HEA crews discovered a problem with a section of underground line near Heath Street, they have isolated that section of line and will make repairs today. Three meters in that area will remain without power until the restoration work is complete. HEA spokesperson Joe Gallagher said it is very important to remember any downed power line should always be considered energized and dangerous. Anyone seeing a downed power line should move away from the area immediately and report the incident to HEA or public safety officials. Do not go near the power line as it can cause serious injury or death.
