Run for Leo Friday

The K-Bay 5K For Leo start at Hmer High School at 5 p.m. Friday and finish at the Kachemak City Recreation Center. Entry donations support the Children's Tumor Foundation. Register online at www.leosheros.org or at the run starting at 4 p.m. There will be free T-shirts for the first 100 donations of $25 or more. Sea kayaking celebrated

The 2011 British Sea Kayak Festival will be Sept. 2-5 in Halibut Cove. The festival features kayak demos, skills training and rescue clinics, navigation and trip planning workshops, a night paddle, beach camping and ACA Coastal Kayak levels 2 and 3 skills assessments. Kayaking equipment can be provided; save money by bringing your own gear. Ms to host meet, triathlon

Swim and dive team of Homer High School and four other peninsula schools starts the season with a meet at the Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center at 10 a.m. Saturday. Seward, Kenai, Soldotna and Skyview will be represented at the meet.

The Mariners' major fundraiser, the annual "Ironman" triathlon, is Sept. 3. The event consists of a 1,000-yard swim, 15-mile bike and 5-mile run, and begins at 8 a.m. at the Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center. Registration deadline is Friday. The entry fee is $50 per person or $100 per team of three. Entry forms are available at the pool and online at www.runningintheusa.com.
