The Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival seeks festival committee members to plan the 20th anniversary event, May 10-13. Meetings begin in September. Birding skills not required. Contact the festival coordinator at shorebirdster@gmail.com or 235-7740.

HCOA and Pier One offer a 12-week youth theater program, TheaterShakes Wednesdays 3:30-5:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 7. Students learn theater skills and perform Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." Register at HCOA or www.homerart.org. Youth after-school art classes begin Oct. 4 at the Boys & Girls Club.

TEDxHomer is 1-9 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Mariner Theater followed by a party at Wasabi's. This year's theme is HeART Matters and features speakers, musical performances, food and prizes. The Omicron chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a service organization of women educators, holds its annual "Back to School Supplies Project" during August. The public is encouraged to help children in need by donating school supplies for clients of the Homer Community Food Pantry. Donations may be dropped off at the receptacle inside Ulmer's, where there is a list of needed supplies. More than 120 children in Homer and Anchor Point benefit from these donations.
