Carol Espiritu, 72, died peacefully at her Homer home with family by her side on July 8, 2012. A memorial service will be held in her honor at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the East Homer Church of Christ.

Carol was born Carol Jean Trott on Jan. 20, 1940, in Weston, Ore. Her family later moved to Idaho where she grew up with her parents Arthur and Vera Trott, and her older siblings, sister Yvonne Vonnie and brother Virlo Bud. Carol spent most of her growing up years riding her horse Smoky in the mountains of Idaho. She attended Clark Fork High School, and later married Dick Sutherland. Dick and Carol soon moved to Seattle where he worked for Boeing. In short order they became parents of Donna, Diana, Richard Rick, and Donald Dino. As a stay-at-home mom, Carols life revolved around her children. Her children were her best friends.

In 1988 Carol moved to Alaska where she settled in Homer, enjoying her childrens, grandchildrens, and great-grandchildrens company. She was much loved by her friends in Homer and will be missed.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brother and former husband. She is survived by her sister, Vonnie Lowther of Hayden, Idaho; daughter Donna and son-in-law Colin Bell of Kelso, Wash.; daughter Diana Scott of Homer; son Rick and daughter-in-law Maura Sutherland of Anchor Point; son Dino and daughter-in-law Kirsten Sutherland of Eagle River, Alaska; grandchildren Gordon, Stephanie, Luke and Jennifer of Kelso; Sandra, of Woodbury, N.J.; Sarah, of Las Vegas; Ricky, of Indianapolis, Ind.; Corey, of Anchorage; Charley, Jacob and Aidan of Eagle River; Royce, Christine and Heather of Homer, and 12 great-grandchildren.
