HCOA announces fall student art programs

The Homer Council on the Arts offers educational programs for children and youth starting in September. This year instruction includes after-school classes as well as daytime classes designed for homeschoolers.

Art classes are offered for students in grades K-8 and introduction to music for homeschoolers grades 1-6. In addition, HCOA will continue its after-school theatre program in collaboration with Pier One Theatre. TheatreShakes, for grades 6-12, will start in September, and Musical Theatre will start in January.

Katy Countiss will teach the after-school art classes and Carol Comfort will teach the music classes. Brenda Dolma returns for the third year to direct TheatreShakes and this year's production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer's Night Dream."

"We have wonderful instructors for our classes," said Gail Edgerly, HCOA's executive director. "They're all experienced, and they all love working with kids."
