Several running events planned for August

Kachemak Bay Running Club has organized several events during the month of August, offering something for runners and walkers of all levels:

• Aug. 19: Breast Cancer Run, sponsored by Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic, 11 a.m. This 5-mile run begins and ends at Bishop's Beach. Register online by visiting www.kbfpc.org/ and following the links.

• Aug. 21: Homestead Trail Run, 6 p.m. This 3.1-mile route meets, starts and finishes at the Rogers Loop Trailhead. For information, call Bill, 399-1078.

• Aug. 25: Fun Run for Hospice, registration 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Hospice of Homer offices; the race starts at 11 a.m. Entrance fee $20. A non-timed event that kicks off at the Hospice of Homer parking lot and ends at Bear Creek Winery in a celebration of life with a wine tasting, nibbles and opportunity to support the hospice mission. Participate by entering, supporting a participant or being at Bear Creek Winery to cheer at the finish line. The event is held in honor of Val Kirsis, who died in 2010. Kirsis was well-known in Homer as a competitive runner and triathlete.

• Aug. 28: Top of the Town Run, 6 p.m. This 6.2-mile run starts and finishes at the Skyline Drive Lookout parking lot. For information, call Randy, 235-4341.
