Harvey Elvin Moore

Harvey Elvin Moore, 89, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Homers Long Term Care Facility. Mr. Moore is survived by his lovely wife, Dorothy Ellen of Homer; his daughter, Kathleen Sue Taylor Perez of North Platte, Neb.; and son, Timothy Joseph Moore of Homer; as well as seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Harvey was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Leapwood, Tenn., the son of the late James and Jessie Horton Moore. Harvey was a World War II veteran who served in the Armys 83rd infantry division at Normandys Omaha Beach, Belgiums Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of Langenstein, a Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany.

Harveys passion was basketball. Harv the Hook Moore was awarded small college All-American as a player at Regis College. He went on to become head basketball coach at his alma mater and then later at Colorados Wheatridge High school, where he achieved two state AAA championships and was honored as coach of the year several times.

Harvey and Dorothy moved from Nebraska to Homer in 2004 to be closer to family. He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers and a son, Harvey E. Moore Jr.
