Skeeters look ahead to new season

As we wind down our third sport shooting season, the Kachemak Skeeters wish to thank many of you for your support. This club has seen much growth with 32 registered shooters and a fine group of coaching staff and adults whove taken it to a new level of organization, accountability and structure. What a fantastic year.

To see our first year kids go from hitting three targets in a round to 19 was rewarding. One little guy, age 9, tied his coach at practice and was Mr. Big Pants all week. The kids shooting performances at two state level events were very impressive, especially when they were competing among 70-85 youth and adults. Six kids and three squads placed in an event/division/class. The kids also shot in a fundraiser for Brianna Gregory Foundation, helping to raise $8,000 for Providence Childrens Hospital.

Yes, the mettle of these kids certainly showed thanks to the commitment from Head Coach Jeff Graham, Assistant Coach Ed Murphy and the rest of the coaching staff.

So to all of you who came to our First Annual Turkey Shoot fundraiser, thank you. We hope you had fun and will put it on your calendar for next year. And to you who gave prize donations, thank you. Your generosity was greatly appreciated. And finally, to you who gave funds throughout the season or bought our Nealrly Perfect Gun Raffle tickets, thank you. Your investment is going straight into the kids.

Our new season opens Sept. 1 for all youth in grades elementary through high school; registration is $30 and practices are $10 each. We are making plans next season for five in-state sport shooting competitions, two sport shooting clinics and possibly attending regional/national level competitions.
