Ring that bell

Schools open doors on new year

STAFF REPORT

Sen. Lisa Murkowski joins Ninilchik school students for an assembly on Feb. 21, 2011.

Where did the summer go?

Seems like just yesterday there was a flurry of graduation ceremonies, desks were being cleaned out, report cards were going home and visions of busy summers were dancing in the heads of Kenai Peninsula Borough School District students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

This month, registration for the 2011-2012 school year is being held at each school on the southern peninsula (see below) and supplies need to be gathered (see pages 8 and 9) in preparation for the first day of classes.

While much of the school district's calendar is the same at each facility, not all schools begin classes on the same day:

• Aug. 15: Kachemak Selo, Razdolna, Voznesenka;

• Aug. 22: Nikolaevsk;

• Aug. 23: Remaining schools on the southern Kenai Peninsula, including Nanwalek and Port Graham.
