Former longtime Homer resident Louise Annie Mitchell, 78, died July 1, 2002, at home in Anchorage surrounded by her loving family.

Services were held Friday, July 5, at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Anchorage. The Rev. Jim Stephans officiated. Interment was at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Danville, Va. She married in 1939 and moved to Alaska with her family in 1960, where she homesteaded near Mile 16 East End Road in Homer. Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered by her family and friends as a devout Christian woman, for her unconditional love and giving spirit. She enjoyed reading, singing gospel songs, shopping, going for scenic drives and family get-togethers.

Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ocie Evans; her sister, Katherine Marr; daughter, Helen Barclay; and husband, Grover "Jack" Mitchell.

She is survived by her brothers, William Evans Jr. of Danville, Va., and David Evans of Eden, N.C.; sisters, Mildred Turner of Piedmont, S.C., and Delores Hamlett of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Patricia Walton and Nancy Murany of Anchorage; son, James Burrell Jr. of Tacoma, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Donna Burrell of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Earl Bristow of Anchorage; grandchildren, Tamara, Stanly, Charlene and Michael, Cheree and Steve, Lori, Thomas, Kenneth, Angela and Frankie, Michele and Bill, Cristal, Rian, Stephanie and Walter and Edward and Staci; great-grandchildren, Karralynn, Stanley, Aleck, Collin, R.J., Tim, T.J., Saetiva, Alex, Ashlyn, Elizabeth and Andrew.
