New sign efforts appreciated
I hope you've had a chance to see the newly renovated sign at the top of Baycrest Hill welcoming people to our community. The sign collapsed in May from years of exposure and deterioration, and we were without the familiar "Homer, Alaska" sign that has been the subject of thousands of photographs.

Over the last month, the crews of Homer Parks and Recreation and Public Works have taken time in between their regular work to renovate the old sign, mount it on marine plywood and install in on recycled pilings from the old dock. I can't thank those crews enough for squeezing in this extra work. Special kudos to Tamara Hagerty, parks maintenance coordinator of the City of Homer, for coordinating this effort. Now our visitors will have "Homer, Alaska" in their photos to show friends and family and keep as reminders of their trip to Homer. Derotha Ferraro, executive director
