William George Stockburger

Dec. 3, 1928 - June 23, 2012

William George Stockburger, 83, passed peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Homer. A memorial service will be held in Moodus, Conn. on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at 5 p.m. at the Moodus Methodist Chruch.

Bill was born on December 3, 1928, in Meriden, Conn., to William Robinson Stockburger and Amy Manton Stockburger. The eldest of three sons, he was raised in Connecticut and Vermont. While serving in the U. S. Air Force in 1948 at Fort Wainwright Air Force Base in Fairbanks, he developed a love of Alaska. Returning to Connecticut after his hitch, Bill met and married Nancy Taylor and together they raised six children in Moodus, Conn.

Working with Nancys father, Jack Taylor, a well-known cabinetmaker, Bill developed the skills to build his own home and operate a successful construction company. He loved traveling, hunting and fishing at his cabin in upstate Vermont. Bill was an avid gardener. Many a summer evening found him happily weeding in his garden. He passed his love of woodworking and Alaska on to his sons. After the passing of his wife in 1998, he realized a life-long dream and joined Mike, Paul and Wes in Alaska.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, and daughter, Cynthia. He is survived by sons Mike, Paul, Wes, Jonathon and daughter Wendy. He also leaves nine grandchildren.

Many thanks to the dedicated staff at South Peninsula Hospital, Long Term Care Facility in Homer and the Alaska Alzheimers Association.
