Faulkner: a strong candidate

A few years ago, I had the chance to meet Paul Seaton and discuss some issues I was concerned about, for which he expressed strong support. Since then, I have been disappointed with his record. He tends to get very low ratings from business advocacy groups. He gets high ratings from education groups like the teachers unions, but while he supports funding public education to the maximum, he has opposed school-choice efforts in Alaska, which could improve the quality of education and allow parents more options in selecting a better education for their children. Troubling, also, has been his pro-abortion stance on several bills, and his opposition to efforts the state made to combat federal takeover of our health care.

I think we have a strong candidate for the House in Jon Faulkner. His experience in turning failing businesses into successes is a strong qualification for something we desperately need in elected officials: a respect and support for small businesses and entrepreneurs. With a federal government that is stifling business and the economy with their giant, failing solutions to problems the free market should be handling, Jons passionate support for free markets and for individuals who want to dream big and build success through hard work is refreshing and sorely needed.

If this election is about the economy, Faulkner is the obvious choice. But I also admire his pro-life stance, his commitment to being restrained with the budget, and his belief in being a responsible steward of Alaskas resources. When I first met Jon Faulkner, he told me he was looking for a person to run in this district to bring a strong voice for conservative principles of limited government and free enterprise. I am excited that he has made the choice to step up to the plate and try to be that person. And I think he can be.
