Skeeters shoot at national, state events in July

The Kachemak Skeeters shooting team had a busy July, beginning with the Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championships at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in Sparta, Ill. July 10-17.

Ten fifth- through 11th-grade boys and eight others from Wasilla represented Team Alaska at the event, which featured more than 1,000 competitors and triple-digit temperatures.

"Almost all of the boys shot as well as they'd shoot up here in cooler temps. No awards, but a fantastic experience," wrote team secretary Amy Fetterhoff in an email.

July 23 three Skeeters participated in the Midnight Sun Charity Shoot at the Grouse Ridge Shooting Club in Wasilla. The event was a fundraiser for the Alaska Outdoor Heritage Foundation and no awards were given.

Six Skeeter boys competed in the Alaska state National Sporting Clays Association competition, held July 28-31 at the same valley range. Noah Swenson placed third in Sporting Clays Intermediate Division.

The Kachemak Skeeters practices shooting sporting clay, trap and skeet. Interested boys and girls are welcome to join. For more information, call 299-1819 or email kachemakskeeters@gmail.com.
