Homer Alaska - Letters

It's not unusual to see American flags flying on the Fourth of July, but did you see them flying on Flag Day and Memorial Day? As part of its community service efforts, the Rotary Club of Homer Downtown mounts these flags at businesses around Homer who have subscribed to the service. The money raised thereby goes to our community projects to help local youth, through scholarships and through support of teen-safety-net programs for at-risk youth.

Over the past four years, the Homer Downtown Rotary Club has contributed nearly $22,000 to these programs, supported in part by grants and by participation of local businesses in our Fly-The-Flag project.

If you've seen these flags and would like to have one placed at your business location on the four summer holidays (Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day) you can sign up now and have one mounted for free this Labor Day. To sign up, send a check for $50 to Rotary Club of Homer Downtown, P.O. Box 57, Homer, AK 99603, or call Jan O'Meara at 235-8757 or Barbara Hill at 235-6640 and we'll send you an application. If you would like to help support our youth outreach further, add a little more to your subscription fee. Any amount will be welcomed and put to good use.

Businesses who subscribe to the Fly-The-Flag project announce their support of local teens every time the flag is placed before their business, and they also are thanked by us in advertising and letters about the project.
