Free business seminars scheduled for August




Bryan Zak of the Alaska Small Business Development Center will lead two free "Starting A Business" workshops in Homer this month.

The workshops will begin at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 and Aug. 26 at the Homer Chamber of Commerce building. Zak will talk about AKSBDC and its partner programs and the benefits of registering for the center's free counseling services. To register, go to http://aksbdc.ecenterdirect.com, click on "training events," scroll to "centers," select Kenai Peninsula and register for the seminar you want to attend.

Also, in August, Sam Dickey, deputy district director for the U.S. Small Business Administration Anchorage office will present information on SBA's Historically Underutilized Business, or HUB, Zone Empowerment Contracting Program that provides federal contracting opportunities for qualified small businesses located in distressed areas.

The free workshop will be from 1-2 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Homer Chamber of Commerce building.

The program promotes business development over a nine-year period. Register online by Aug. 8 by going to http://aksbdc.ecenterdirect.com, click on "training events," scroll to "centers," select Kenai Peninsula and scroll to find the seminar.
