Art plan worthy
Homer has been known as a haven for artists and those who enjoy art. Many of our residents are artists who have been selected to create works for the 1 percent for the Arts in Anchorage.

We have a fabulous opportunity to show support for visual arts, our local artists and tourism by asking our city council to vote in favor of 1 percent for the Arts. This makes economic sense, helping Homer look better and attracting more tourism.

If we look at other communities, we see the positive impact of visual arts -- Anchorage is a good example. Santa Fe and Taos, both art communities that are economically sustainable in a very poor state, New Mexico, are examples.

I see tourists photographing the front of Cafe Cups all the time, because of the unique art. Homer can begin to look and feel more like an art mecca for the state if we help ourselves by supporting 1 percent for the Arts.

Art, ask for more. Art matters.
