The city of Homer and the Federal Emergency Management Agency hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Homer City Hall on flood hazards on the Homer Spit. FEMA recently completed a study reevaluating Spit flood hazards and has prepared a draft Flood Insurance Rate Map reflecting changes. Property and lease owners are invited to see the map changes and ask questions about the new flood insurance maps. Changes in the map could affect flood insurance rates and mortgage loan requirements. A FEMA representative will make a short presentation at 5:30 p.m. Hard copies of maps are available at the planning office.
