Volunteers aid derby success
A lot of volunteers put in many hours to make the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby a success. I would like to thank all the ticket vendors, the advertisers and sponsors and charter boat captains. They number in the hundreds.

This year a special thank you goes to the derby committee and several other volunteers who diligently worked on refurbishing the derby headquarters building on the Homer Spit. The derby committee includes Pet Wedin, chair; Travis Larson, John Phillips, Donna Bondioli, Deborah Brown, Mike Coates, Christine Walrath, Linda Skeleton, Trace Carlos and Dave Mastolier.

Other volunteers, who worked on headquarters, were Henry Baldouf, Jack Winters and Deborah Wedin. A very special new edition to derby headquarters is a flag with the derby log of King Hal, designed and made by Linda Skeleton.

Every year several people also volunteer as weighmasters to weigh those big fish and verify the accuracy of the entry. They are on call every afternoon and evening throughout the summer. The weighmasters for 2002 are Linda Phillips, Tabor Ashment, Linda Skeleton and Ken Hinkle.

A huge thank you to all.

Linda Winters, derby coordinator
