Mayor Leo Rhodes announces he will not seek re-election this fall, saying it is time for some younger people to join the ranks of local government and replace his "moose meat and potatoes" philosophy.

King salmon runs around the Cook Inlet are thicker than ever, with bumper crops reported in the Kasilof River, Halibut Cove and elsewhere on the Southern Peninsula. Sport fishermen took around 900 more kings from the early run on the Kenai River than the previous year.
