Homer's Gardens delight and amaze

The Homer Garden Club presents its Gardeners' Weekend Saturday and Sunday. The event features Dr. Allan Armitage, writer, speaker and researcher, who will lead two "walkabouts" at the Fritz Creek Gardens at noon and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Each walk is limited to 15 participants. Cost is $25.

Armitage also will give a lecture titled "Crazy Plants for Crazy Gardeners" at 7 p.m. Saturday at Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. Cost is $15. The club's annual summer garden tour will feature six local gardens. The garden tour will be from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $10 for Homer Garden Club members and $15 for the general public. At the end of the garden tour, there will be a reception at Bear Creek Winery.

Tickets and maps for the garden sites will be available at the lecture, the Homer Bookstore and the Homer Chamber of Commerce prior to the event and at City Hall from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.
