Slow down, take some time to savor summer

Not to put a damper on your summer, but the beginning of school is just a little more than five weeks away. So, now's the time to really gear up to enjoy what's left of the season.

Make a resolution that you won't let the summer slip away without doing some of the things that make living here so fantastic. It doesn't have to be expensive. A lunchtime walk on the beach or out the Homer Spit Trail fits the bill. Have you been to the Homer and Anchor Point farmers' markets yet? When was the last time you visited the Pratt Museum or Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center? This week reporter McKibben Jackinsky details one of the jewels in our own backyard: the Eveline State Recreation Area. See her story on page 2 for a great place to explore. If you're needing more ideas, turn to our Calendar on page 18. There really is something for everyone.

In the busy-ness of the summer season, we hope you find time to enjoy the wildflowers.
