Homicide autopsy complete; results not being released yet

The Alaska State Medical Examiner's office has completed the autopsy of Demian Sagerser, 40, who was found dead of apparent gunshot wounds in his home on David Avenue near Stariski Creek about 12:30 a.m. July 8.

However, Megan Peters, information officer for the Alaska Department of Public Safety, said on Tuesday that the department is not releasing the autopsy results at this time. Sagerser's death is being investigated by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, Soldotna, as a homicide. Peters urged anyone with information that could help with the investigation to call (907) 262-4453.

Probe into condo fire continues

The June 27 fire that destroyed four condos and caused damage to other units of the Landings Condominiums is still under investigation, said Bob Painter, chief of the Homer Volunteer Fire Department. HVFD and insurance investigators met Friday to continue their on-site investigation and HVFD responders held a post-incident review Tuesday evening to critique their own response to the fire, said Painter.

"There may not be a particular cause," Painter said. "There's a couple of ideas and some hypothesis, but it may remain undetermined and under investigation. ... There's nothing new right now."
