There will be a youth football camp at Homer High School July 23-26 designed to develop the skills of 2nd- through 9th-grade Pop Warner players.
The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day and will cost $40, or $10 per day. There will be same-day registration.

Sports physicals Tuesday
Student athletes will have a chance to get free sports physical screening on Tuesday at Homer High School from 7-9 p.m. All athletes are required to have an annual physical to participate in high school athletics as well as Pop Warner football. Call Kachemak Bay Sports Medicine and Orthopedics at 235-2261 for details. Athletes should wear gym shorts and a T- shirt.
Girls softball continues
In an effort to get more field time for junior and senior softball players, there will be pick-up games Wednesday evenings at 6:30 and Sundays at 2 p.m. For details call Scott Bauer at 235-6110 or Kim Duggar at 235-5695.
Homer men take second
The Homer Riptide finished second overall in the men's invitational softball tournament in Kenai, after falling 17-5 on Sunday to Chilkoot Charlie's of Anchorage.
The D and E division tourney featured 14 teams from the Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage and the Mat-Su borough. The division E Riptide, who were sponsored by Jeeps 'R' Us of Homer, had a 6-3 tourney record, with two losses coming to division D Chilkoots.
Hunter classes on tap
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game hunter education courses are now a requirement for hunters under 16, and space is limited for the three July courses the department has scheduled. There will be a two-day course at Anchor Point Fire Hall on July 26-27, a two-day course at the Homer Boys and Girls Club on July 27-28, and a one-day course at the Homer Maritime National Wildlife Refuge visitor center on July 29. Each class is limited to 24 students, and there is a $10 materials fee. Call Fish and Game at 235-8191 for more information.
