Art proposal ill-advised
The proposed "1 percent for the Arts" is nothing more than welfare for artists. Any public art should come directly, and voluntarily, from the public. It should not be paid for by tax money; people pay city taxes for services, not pictures and sculptures. Art is not a necessity nor is supporting it a proper function of government. I fail to see how a welfare for artists program will benefit the local economy, though perhaps it will benefit a certain council member's artist wife.
