One of the highlights of our time here has been perusing your local media for things to see and to get insights into your overall community. What a diverse and talented population! Congratulations!

My husband has always wanted to write and was struck by the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference. He was fascinated by the fact that such a small community could host such a gathering.

One last comment: We noted that the Homer News won Alaska Press Club's award for the state's Best Weekly Newspaper. Again, congratulations! We are mystified by one point. My cousin showed us the list of winners from your publication, and none of us could understand why the Nick C. Varney column wasn't mentioned. Where we come from, someone as hilarious as him would be syndicated. Please let him know that he brought us a lot of true laughter during our stay, and we are taking his stories home with us, along with a promise from our cousin Randy for anything else your resident wacko writes.
